I need to make a confession…well, for those of you who follow me on social media you already know, I have always had a love affair…OKAY…a full blown addiction to Diet Mt. Dew. Like a 2 liter a day addiction. NO JOKE! I used it as a HUGE crutch. It was my sweet treat. My zero calorie dessert. My stress reliever. My happy place.
I have tried to stop drinking it & have been successful in the past…for a limited time. I have read countless articles & studies on the harm of aspartame & similar faux sweeteners on the body. I KNEW I was putting junk into my body…daily…but couldn't stop. Seriously…ask my family. If I was without it for any length of time I was a total crab…& that's putting it nicely.
So why did decide to stop NOW?
Simple really…I was just READY. I had it set in my mind to do it…and I AM!
I was also sick with the flu at the end of last year for 2 full weeks. I figured that was the perfect time to make the transition. I had switched to buying cans instead of 2 liter bottles months before. All in the hopes of trying to get a grip on the amount I was drinking. So, on January 1, 2013 I had 11 cans of Diet Dew left. Being the cheap girl I am I was not about to dump it…plus the addict in me didn't want to. Just being honest.
So, I had ONE can a day for 11 days. That right there was a MASSIVE improvement for me. I increased my water during those 11 days because in the months…heck YEARS prior I would go days without drinking water. Another sad fact & one I knew was hindering my personal health & fitness goals.

As I sit here & type this blog post I am 1 month FREE from the Diet Dew addiction! I can honestly say I do not crave it at all! Which really I didn't think that would EVER happen for me. I figured I would crave it for a very long time. Also, I don't crave sweets as much as I used to.
The one thing that I have used to make this transition "easier" for myself….USE APPS!! YES, phone apps have been a wonderful tool for me & have helped me remember what I'm doing it & to KEEP IT UP! The two I use DAILY…all day long are…

This app tracks your water intake. It suggests drinking half your current body weight. I personally drink more since water is my drink of choice…at half my body weight I would be very thirsty It also will send you a reminder on your phone to drink up! This keeps me on my toes no matter what I'm doing or where I am.
